Verification and Validation

It’s easy to get confused trying to convey the meaning of these two simple but related definitions.

Essence

  • Verification — requirements are met.
  • Validation — requirements for specific use are met.

Example

  • Verification — the engine has 20 hp.
  • Validation — the engine with 20 hp will not move a truck.
