It’s easy to get confused trying to convey the meaning of these two simple but related definitions.
Essence
- Verification — requirements are met.
- Validation — requirements for specific use are met.
Example
- Verification — the engine has 20 hp.
- Validation — the engine with 20 hp will not move a truck.
ISO 9000:2005 Standard
Definitions:

Verification — confirmation through the provision of objective evidence that specified requirements have been fulfilled.
